Karsilasma - The Encounter

Sessizlik. Kadın, kapıyı yeniden çalar. Sahnenin solundan başka bir kadın gelir. Kolunu çevirerek kapıyı açar. Kapı içeri doğru açılır. Kadınlar odaya girerler. Kapı kapanır.

* Merhaba.
- Merhaba.

Kadın pencerenin önüne, yüzü sağa dönük şekilde oturur.
Uzun sessizlik.
Kadın ağlamaya başlar. Kapı açılır. Kadın ayağa kalkar, kapıdan dışarı çıkar. Sahnenin soluna yürür. Kapının ağır ağır kapanmaya başlamasıyla geri döner ve tekrar odaya girer. Önceden oturduğu yere, aynı şekilde oturur.

- Su ister misin?
* Evet, teşekkür ederim.

Kısa sessizlik. Kadın, önündeki sehpaya konan bardaktaki suyu içer.

- Senin için ne yapabilirim?
* Anlat.
- Anlatamam.
- Belki denersek anlatabiliriz birbirimize, bildiklerimizi.
* Önce kim başlayacak?
- Sen.
* Olur.
- ...
* Sen anlat.
* Doğru.

Uzun sessizlik.

* Şimdi ne yapmalıyız?
- Bilmiyorum. Çok uzun zamandır haber vermiyor bana hiç.
* Benim de telefonlarıma cevap vermiyor.
- Şu anda anlatabileceği ne olabilir ki zaten?
* Ben biliyorum galiba.

* Gitmeliyim.
- Belli olmaz o. Belki de ben gitmeliyimdir.
* İkimizin birlikte gitmesine ne dersin?
- İyi fikir, sence bunu başarabilir miyiz?
* Bilmiyorum, ama başarabilmeliyiz.
- Doğru.

Kapıya yönelirler. Kapının kolunun zorlandığı görülür. Kapı açılmaz. Işık söner. Kapıyı zorlama sesleri duyulur. Işık yanar. Sessizlik. Işık söner.

Perde.

The Encounter

A room with four walls around, in the middle of the stage. A door facing the audience and a broad window to the left of the door. The door’s handle is to the right of the door. Woman enters from left. Knocks at the door. Inside the room, right behind the door, a lamp is turned on. Silence. Woman knocks at the door again. Another woman enters from left. Opens the door using the handle. Door opens inwards. Women enter the room. Door is closed.

* Hello.

- Hello.

Woman sits down in front of the window, facing right.

Long silence.

Woman starts crying. Door is opened. Woman stands up, goes out of the room. When the door starts closing slowly, returns and enters the room again. Sits down in the same place, in the exact same position.

- Want some water?

* Yes, thank you.

Short silence. Woman drinks the water that was put on the table in front of her.

- What can I do for you?

* Tell.

- I can’t tell. I don’t even know as much as you do.

* And I always thought I didn’t know as much as you do.

- Perhaps, if we try, we may be able to tell each other what we know.

* Who’s going to start first?

- You.

* Okay.

- What happened that night?

* We talked. He told me that he left the decision to me. His calmness was driving me crazy. He explained the situation so dully that I couldn’t even cry as much as I needed to. Then we made sex.

- Who started the sex?

* He did. Anyway, when he’s finished with what he was to tell, he either wants an immediate answer, or to have sex. I explained how I was feeling. Wait… Probably that happened before everything else. After that, we slept.

- What happened in the morning?

* I told him about my decision. He started weeping as it wasn’t the answer he wanted.

- But he always makes small tricks to make you feel he respects your decisions, doesn’t he?

* Of course. There can’t be a better strategy to change my decision.

- But you didn’t change your decision?

* True. However, even I don’t know why I didn’t fool this time.

- …

* Now you tell.

- What can I tell? He told me that he’ll be back. I don’t know, maybe he made it up just to live the last days joyfully, and then couldn’t take his words back. Maybe he really meant to come back. Or maybe, for the first time in his life, he wanted to make a decision and stick to it; and that coincided with me.

* Even if so, why would he tell you that?

- So that it becomes binding, so that he can’t break his words, for instance.

* So, in any of the three cases, we can say he acted according to the main goal of not slipping you away from his hands.

- Hasn’t it happened the exact same way with you too? You yourself were telling how late he acted about telling you about me.

* I haven’t told you this yet.

- True. But there are no historical orderings in the mind.

* True.

Long silence.

* What should we do now?

- I don’t know. He hasn’t contacted me ever since.

* He’s not answering my calls as well.

- What can there possibly be that he could tell?

* I think I know. We just talked about it.

- I see. You will link it to this not slipping away from hands thing.

* Do you think I’m being too cruel?

- No, it came into my mind as well, but I waited for you to say as you know him more closely.

* No one knows him closely.

- True.

Woman stands up.

* I should go.

- It depends. Perhaps I should go.

* What do you say, should we both go?

- Good idea, do you think we are able to?

* I don’t know, but we must be.

- True.

They head towards the door. The handle is seen to be forced to open. Door remains closed. Light turned off. Sounds of the forcings on the door to open it. Light turned on. Silence. Light turned off.

Curtain.
